Team USA's men's curling is down but not out at the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang, South Korea.

They're still alive thanks to an incredible, emotional come-from-behind win over world power Canada, and they did it with a game-winning shot by Minnesota native John Shuster

Shuster's game winner came in the 11th end with the score tied 7-7. He put the rock on the button for the 9-7 U.S. victory.

It's the first win ever over Canada for U.S. men's curling in an Olympic event, according to CBS Sports.

“To come out here and get a win against the class of the field (Canada) was very big for our team and gives us momentum going forward,” Shuster told NBC. “It always feels good to make the last (shots) and execute.”

Shuster was born in Chisholm, Minnesota and his hometown is just east of Duluth in Superior, Wisconsin. He attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth and is a member of the Duluth Curling Club.

He's joined on the men's curling team by Mankato's John Landsteiner and Cass Lake's Joe Polo, both of whom now live in Duluth – as well as Duluth native Tyler George.

Monday's victory gives Team USA a record of 3-4 in PyeongChang with their next match coming Tuesday against Switzerland, which you can watch on tape delay at 4 p.m. Central Time on NBC Sports Network.

They follow that with their final round robin game Wednesday against Great Britain.

Current men's curling standings

  1. Sweden: 7-1
  2. Switzerland: 5-3
  3. Great Britain: 5-3
  4. Canada: 5-3
  5. Japan: 3-4
  6. Norway: 3-4
  7. United States: 3-4
  8. South Korea: 3-5
  9. Denmark: 2-5
  10. Italy: 2-6

The teams with the four best records will play in the semifinal round on Thursday, followed by the bronze medal match Friday and the gold medal game on Saturday.
