Minnesota natives Oshie, Niskanen, Boyd, Gersich win Stanley Cup with Washington Capitals

For the first time in franchise history, the Washington Capitals are Stanley Cup champions, defeating the upstart Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Game 5 Thursday night. 

It marks the end of the greatest season in Capitals history along with sealing Alexander Ovechkin's legacy as one of the all-time NHL greats. 

It's also a championship for four Minnesota natives. 

  • T.J. Oshie, Warroad
  • Matt Niskanen, Virginia
  • Shane Gersich, Chaska
  • Travis Boyd, Hopkins

It's the first Stanley Cup for all four. 

Oshie and Gersich played their college hockey at North Dakota, Niskanen played for Minnesota-Duluth and Boyd was a Gopher.
