For the first time in franchise history, the Washington Capitals are Stanley Cup champions, defeating the upstart Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 in Game 5 Thursday night.

It marks the end of the greatest season in Capitals history along with sealing Alexander Ovechkin's legacy as one of the all-time NHL greats.

It's also a championship for four Minnesota natives.

  • Travis Boyd, Hopkins

It's the first Stanley Cup for all four.

Oshie and Gersich played their college hockey at North Dakota, Niskanen played for Minnesota-Duluth and Boyd was a Gopher.
