Minnesota State University won its second straight NSIC Tournament championship on Tuesday night in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The Mavericks defeated Winona State 75-66 to claim the tourney title. The tournament championship goes along with MSU's regular season conference title.

Minnesota State guard Zach Monaghan scored a game high 24 points. He was named the tournament's MVP.

MSU Coach Matt Margenthaler told the Mankato Free Press, "No question, he controlled the game. He had a great tournament."

Others stepped up too, MSU senior Conner O'Brien notched the 15th double-double of his career with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Assem Marei also recorded a double-double, he scored 19 points and grabbed 10 boards.

Winona freshman Riley Bambenek led the Warriors with 19 points, Mark Blacklock had 16.

Minnesota State, swept by Winona during the regular season, took control of the game when they controlled the first-half on a 21-10 run to take a 34-24 lead into the locker room.

Winona cut into the lead twice in the second half, reducing the deficit to six on two different occasions, but both times the Mavericks responded.

The win, improved MSU to 29-4, and set a single season school record for most wins.
