Minnesota stays alive, will play for trip to Little League World Series

The Coon Rapids-Andover team needs to beat Iowa Saturday.

With their backs against the wall, the Minnesota's top Little League team thumped a team from Missouri 9-0 Friday to advance to the Little League Midwest Regional tournament championship round, where they'll face Iowa Saturday with a trip to the Little League World Series on the line. 

Minnesota, represented by Coon Rapids-Andover American, will have to beat Iowa twice to reach the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. 

They face Iowa at 10 a.m. Saturday and the game will be televised on ESPN. 

Minnesota defeated Nebraska 15-7 to begin the regional, then doubled up South Dakota 8-4 before falling to Iowa 3-1 Thursday. 

The Little League World Series is Aug. 15-25.
