On Tuesday, Gov. Mark Dayton and state business leaders will announce a bid for Minnesota to play host to the NCAA Championship college football game in an upcoming year.

The governor's office tipped off its intentions when it announced a news conference. The assumption is that the game would be held in the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, which is under construction in downtown Minneapolis.

No other details about the potential bid are available yet. But the Star Tribune reports that the College Football Playoff National Championship game, which decides the top college football team, is scheduled at other venues for the next two years - Glendale, Ariz. in January 2016 and Tampa in January 2017.

The Vikings stadium won't be open for more than a year, but it's already been chosen as the site of two of the highest profile events in sports – the NFL Super Bowl in 2018 and the NCAA Final Four basketball tournament in 2019, the Associated Press notes.

Landing the college football championship game would complete the trifecta.
