Things didn't go according to plan in Minnesota United's season opener in San Jose – though a late comeback almost salvaged a point from nothing.

Two Earthquakes goals in the space of two first-half minutes put the Loons on the rack and left them an uphill battle for the rest of the match.

They added another to make it 3-0 in the 59th minute and it looked like United were headed for an ignominious defeat.

But a late brace in the 82nd and 85th minutes by Trinidadian midfielder Kevin Molino gave the away side hope of an unlikely draw.

'They didn’t give in,” said Head Coach Adrian Heath told MNUFC.com. "At 3-nil it’s very easy to shut up shop and don’t try and go forward, but they kept going forward, they kept moving the ball well. I always thought that at some stage we would get chances. When it went to 3-2 it was a bit of a nervy end for them in the end."

Ultimately they didn't do enough to get a late equalizer and start the season with one in the "L" column.

The Loons are on the road again next weekend, playing at Orlando City, before the home opener against rivals Chicago Fire on Apr. 17.
