Minnesota United scores two goals in injury time to defeat Atlanta FC

The Loons pulled off a rare win in Atlanta.

While most people were glued to the Twins playoff game, the Minnesota United pulled off an amazing win in Atlanta on Tuesday.

Trailing 2-1 in the 90th minute, Christian Ramirez knocked in his 14th goal of the season to tie things at two.

With seven minutes of stoppage time at their disposal, the Loons would get one the board once more when Kevin Molino knocked in a beautiful cross from Miguel Ibarra to secure an improbable 3-2 win.

Why the win was particularly impressive

Winning in Atlanta is no easy task, they're unbeaten at home this season – now sharing the Mercedes Benz Stadium with the Falcons – and have outscored their opponents 27-6 over the last eight homes games before Minnesota's 3-2 win.

Granted, Atlanta was playing down a man – just 10 players on the pitch – after losing three players to injury with no substitutes remaining.

Both teams are in their first year of the MLS but it's big-spending Atlanta who's had more success this season. Their 15-8-9 (W-D-L) record is leaps and bounds ahead of Minnesota's 10-5-16 record.

The regular season is coming to a close for Minnesota, who will play just three more games from now until Oct. 22. Next up is Sporting KC on Oct. 7 in Kansas City.
