Minnesotans at the Olympics: Oshie leads U.S. to hockey win

Saturday was a day for Minnesotans to shine at the Olympic Winter games in Sochi, Russia.

The big news of the day Saturday was the performance of Warroad's T.j. Oshie as he became an Olympic hero leading Team USA to a dramatic victory over the Russians in men's hockey. Oshie scored four goals during the shootout to secure the 3-2 win for the Americans.

Afton native Jessica Diggins and the U.S. women's 4-by-5-kilometer cross-country skiing relay team finished ninth on Saturday. Diggins along with teammates Kikkan Randall, Sadie Bjornsen and Elizabeth Stephen finished in 55:33.4, about 2-and-a-half minutes behind the leaders.

Sweden captured the gold, Finland the silver, and Germany captured bronze. Finishing ninth was a little disappointing for the Americans, the team finished fourth in the 2013 World Championships.

In women's curling Team USA fell to Sweden 7-6. Minneapolis' Jessica Schultz and Eden Prairie's Allison Pottinger are members of the team. Sweden moves to 5-1 overall and the Americans have just two matches left in the preliminary round.

Day 9, Sunday puts the U.S. men's hockey team right back on the ice.

Just one day after a dramatic shootout win over Russia the United States hockey team is back on the ice Sunday looking to pick up their third win of the games.

They play Slovenia on Sunday, the puck drops at 6:30 a.m. Minnesota time.

The U.S. Curling team returns to action. Team USA is lead by Chisholm's John Schuster. He is looking to get the team back to even, and with a win over Canada they can do just that. But the Canadians are 5-1 so far in the games.
