MLB offseason begins, Twins have 5 becoming free agents

Kansas City's 7-2 victory over the New York Mets brought an end to the World Series Sunday night, meaning the 2015-16 offseason is now officially underway.

That means 139 players have now officially become free agents – including five Minnesota Twins.

Outside of the Twins, there are some big names hitting the free agent market.

  • Yoenis Cespedes OF – New York Mets
  • Chris Davis 1B – Baltimore Orioles
  • Tim Lincecum P – San Francisco Giants
  • David Price P – Toronto Blue Jays
  • Jordan Zimmerman P – Washington Nationals

There are a few former Twins becoming free agents as well.

  • Denard Span OF – Washington Nationals
  • A.J. Pierzynski C – Atlanta Braves
  • Justin Morneau 1B – Colorado Rockies
  • Kyle Lohse P – Milwaukee Brewers
  • Craig Breslow RP – Cleveland Indians

Twins general manager Terry Ryan hasn't said much about how he plans to attack free agency.

Twins blogger for Rhett Bollinger says upgrading the bullpen remains a priority, and Minnesota could look to add another catcher to split duties with Kurt Suzuki.

If recent history is any indicator, Ryan could look to a former Twin for help. The Twins have been reportedly interested in a reunion with Pierzynski.

CBS Sports notes that free agents are eligible to begin signing with new teams at 12:01 ET this Saturday. Up until then they can only negotiate and sign with their former team.
