One week into the season and the Gophers have lost running back Mohamed Ibrahim.
Head coach P.J. Fleck announced Monday that Ibrahim needs season-ending surgery after suffering an injury to his left leg during the third quarter of Minnesota's 45-31 loss to Ohio State.
Ibrahim had 162 yards on 30 carries when he left the game late in the third quarter in last Thursday's season opener.
Sports medical analyst Dr. David Chao saw the video and speculated that Ibrahim suffered a torn Achilles, but the Gophers have not provided specifics about the redshirt senior's injury.
Trey Potts will likely serve as the No. 1 running back when Minnesota faces Miami (Ohio) at 11 a.m. Saturday.
