Thousands of Minnesotans paused Tuesday to remember the teenager who died over the weekend while playing the sport he loved.

Zacharie Schaubhut, just 15 years old, died after being hit by a line drive while he was on the pitching mound for a pick-up game Saturday.

His family believes an unknown medical condition is what caused his death, but an official determination hasn't been made.

On that same mound there's now a memorial for the young boy, the Bemidji Pioneer says; flowers, baseballs, some Twins hats.

At the Bemidji Lumberjacks' high school baseball section tournament game Tuesday, the teams and community held a moment of silence for Schaubhut, the Pioneer also reported.

Fans donned T-shirts with "#PlayForZach" written on the front.

And in Minneapolis, the Minnesota Twins before their game held their own moment of silence, the crowd of more than 23,000 stopping to pay their respects.

Schaubhut is from Bemidji, but last fall moved to Iowa. He returned to northern Minnesota to play with the Northern Heat traveling baseball team, the Des Moines Register reports. Tryouts were scheduled for Tuesday.

The paper says he attended Southview Middle School in Ankeny, and school district officials have made grief counselors available to students there.

The Facebook page Remember Zach Schaubhut posted a short video slideshow with photos of Schaubhut.
