Led by Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen, who combined for 51 points, the Minnesota Lynx defeated the Los Angeles Sparks 82-76 Wednesday night at Target Center.

Moore had 27 points on the night and Whalen, who was coming off an eye injury, scored 24, the Associated Press reports. The two of them combined to score Minnesota's last 12 points of the game.

The game also marked the debut of Minnesota's newest player, center Sylvia Fowles, who was acquired Monday in a trade with Chicago. Fowles scored 11 points and had five rebounds, the Star Tribune reports.

The Sparks were led by Jantel Lavender with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Two-time MVP Candace Parker, who had been out of action for the first half of the season, had 12 points, seven rebounds, and nine assists.

Although the Sparks have the worst record in the league right now at 3-14, they're expected to be stronger in the second half of the season with the return of Parker and Alana Beard, who's been out with a leg injury.

And they didn't go down easily, according to the Star Tribune.

Los Angeles shot 56.4 percent from the floor, and had a few scoring streaks when the Lynx offense faltered.

Minnesota was up 43-35 at halftime, but the Sparks went on a run in the third quarter to get within two, at 56-54. The Lynx then went on their own 8-2 run to bring the lead back to eight.

Los Angeles had another streak at the beginning of the fourth quarter to pull within three, 76-73, with only 2:31 left. Moore scored two baskets and Whalen had one to put the game out of reach.

The Lynx took advantage of 22 Sparks turnovers.

Minnesota (13-4) owns the best record in the league. Their next game is Friday evening against Atlanta at Target Center.
