Moorhead HS hockey coach, Cullen, resigns after domestic disputes reported
Peter Cullen, head coach of the Moorhead High School boys' hockey team, resigned after an anonymous complaint alleging domestic abuse was lodged against him last week, the Fargo Forum reports.
The complaint, a copy of which was emailed to the newspaper, asks the school district to investigate Cullen following 911 disturbance calls made by his girlfriend.
Police records obtained by the Forum show that officers responded to the home of Cullen's girlfriend for reports of domestic disturbances on five different occasions in the last five years.
The most recent incident occurred on June 14, when police found a cell phone smashed on the floor and beer cans strewn throughout the home. Cullen and his girlfriend later admitted to having a verbal fight, but the girlfriend maintained it never got physical.
In a police report from a 2012 disturbance call, two officers claim to have responded to previous incidents in which Cullen had beaten his girlfriend, the newspaper pointed out.
Valley News Live reports Cullen was charged with domestic assault in 2004 and 2008. Both charges were dismissed. The television station also said Cullen was convicted for DWI in 2004.
Cullen, cousin of Minnesota Wild center Matt Cullen, was named head coach in April after serving as interim head coach the previous season. His resignation was effective Wednesday.
