Minneapolis will be a the epicenter of the national volleyball spotlight in 2017.

USA Volleyball announced Friday that the city will host two of its three signature national championship events in 2017 – the USA Volleyball Open National Championships and the USA Volleyball Girls' Junior National Championships.

According to the Star Tribune, the two combined events will draw approximately 45,000 athletes and spectators to the city.

In a press release, Sports Minneapolis says that the events are expected to bring a $65 million economic boost to Minneapolis and the metro area – which it says will surpass the $50 million generated by Target Field hosting the MLB All-Star Game last year.

The Open will be held May 26-31 and is for adults, while the junior national championships will run from June 25 to July 4. Both events will be held at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

"Minneapolis has proven to be a great destination for our championship events," said Tom Pingel, USA Volleyball senior director of indoor events and High Performance. "The city and venue are very experienced in meeting the needs of the event and its participants. Volleyball and Minneapolis are a great fit and we look forward to returning in 2017."

While USA Volleyball has hosted several major tournaments in Minneapolis recently, it's the first time the organization has ever held two of it's major championships in the same city in the same year.
