The University of St. Thomas' NCAA Division III championship hopes disappeared along with 14-point lead in their loss Saturday to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, 74-67, D3Hoops reports.

The Tommies played the Crusaders in the semifinal round of the Division III tourney in Salem, Va.

The No. 1-ranked Tommies (30-2) led 38-33 at halftime and built their lead to 14 points midway through the second half, but the unranked Crusader (27-5) amassed an impressive 24-7 run over the last 6:31.

The Tommies took the lead 67-66 with 38 seconds left in the game, but the Crusaders made 8-of-8 free throws in the final 21 seconds to secure the win.

Will Deberg had 21 points to lead the Tommies, while James Allen was the top Crusaders scorer with 19.

The loss brought to a halt a 14-game winning streak by the Tommies.

Mary Hardin-Baylor will play in the D-3 championship game April 7 in Atlanta.
