US Bank Stadium will filled with green and gold when college football powerhouse North Dakota State travels to Minneapolis for a pseudo home game in 2023 against fellow FCS power Eastern Washington.
The battle of FCS heavyweights at the home of the Minnesota Vikings was announced Wednesday. The game will be played to open the 2023 season, Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023.
“We are excited to bring Bison football back to the Twin Cities in 2023,” said NDSU director of athletics Matt Larsen, in a press release. “The opportunity to showcase our program at U.S. Bank Stadium and once again engage with alumni and fans in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area is very important to our student-athletes, athletic department and university.”
NDSU played at Target Field to open the 2019 season. More than 34,000 fans packed the ballpark to witness Trey Lance explode onto the scene with a five-touchdown performance in his first college start. The Marshall, Minnesota native has since been drafted by the San Francisco 49ers.
“I look forward to our fans once again taking over downtown Minneapolis and U.S. Bank Stadium in a sea of green and yellow,” said NDSU head football coach Matt Entz. “This is an exciting opportunity for our players and fans, and for our program to host an event in an NFL stadium.”
Ticket information will be released at a later date.
