NFC North Watch: Lions, Bears and Packers Round 1 picks

The first round of the 2013 NFL Draft is history, with the Vikings grabbing three picks Thursday night.

How did their NFC North foes fare in the grand guessing game?

Here's a quick look, with some hometown reaction:

The Detroit Lions, with the 5th overall pick, selected BYU defensive end Ziggy Ansah.

Instant reaction, via the Detroit Free Press: "The Lions’ drafting of defensive end Ezekiel (Ziggy) Ansah and his scarily limited football experience with the fifth overall selection represents a continuation of the same old question: Are the executives and coaches in this organization instinctively wired to put themselves in peril of being fired?"

The Chicago Bears, with the 20th overall pick, selected Oregon guard Kyle Long.

Instant reaction, via the Chicago Tribune:"Long certainly has the genes. His father, Howie Long, is a Pro Football Hall of Famer. His brother Chris Long was the second pick of the 2008 draft. 'His dad and brother think he's the best athlete in the family,' (General manager Phil) Emery said."

The Green Bay Packers, with the 26th overall pick, selected UCLA defensive end Datone Jones.

Instant reaction, via the Green Bay Press-Gazette: "There’s a lot to like about Jones. Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers talked glowingly about Jones’ high character. During his teleconference with the local media Jones invoked the name of former Packers great Reggie White. Scouts also say Jones has a strong work ethic. In other words, Jones could be a perfect fit in Green Bay."
