Notre Dame was pretty much Notre Done after the first quarter of last night’s BCS National Championship Game. Alabama destroyed the nation’s No. 1 ranked team, 42-14 on Monday night in Miami, Florida.

The Crimson Tide rolled to a 14-0 lead after the first quarter before quickly going on top 21-0 after the first play of the second quarter. The lead would grow to four touchdowns at the half, and 35-0 early in the third quarter.

The Fighting Irish would score for the first time with less than five minutes to play in the third, cutting the 'Bama lead to 28 points, 35-7.

Alabama quarterback A.J. McCarron finished 20-28 with 264 yards and 4 touchdowns. ESPN announcers Brent Musburger and Kirk Herbstreit enjoyed a moment in the game when the cameras showed McCarron's girlfriend, who just so happens to be Miss Alabama.

In a related story, the top-ranked Gopher hockey team hosts No. 2 Notre Dame Tuesday at Mariucci Arena.
