U.S. MEN'S CURLING

The American men, led by four Minnesotans, defeated Germany in their first of two matches on Friday, only to turn around and suffer a crushing defeat to Russia. The 8-5 victory over Germany gave the Americans a 2-3 record, but the 7-6 loss to Russia dropped their record to 2-4 and with only three matches left in the preliminary round their hopes of reaching the medal round (only the top four teams advance) are virtually nil, according to the Star Tribune.

According to the Pioneer Press, the Russians scored in the final end of the match for the win.

U.S. WOMEN'S CURLING

Another day in Sochi was more of the same for the American women's curling team. Minneapolis native Jessica Schultz and the rest of her teammates were dominated in a 9-2 loss to Denmark. It was Denmark's first win of the tournament, and they're now tied with the U.S. at 1-5 for last place.

WILD PLAYERS IN MEN'S HOCKEY

Nino Neiderreiter, a young forward for the Minnesota Wild didn't score and neither to his home country of Switzerland in a 1-0 loss to Sweden on Friday. The Swiss are now 1-1 while the Swedes improved to 2-0. The Wild asked Neiderreiter to tweet during the Olympics, and you can follow his experiences here.

Fellow Wild youngster Mikael Granlund played nearly 18 minutes in Finland's 6-1 win over Norway on Friday. Granlund didn't tally a point but he was aggressive, taking four shots and finishing with a plus-1 rating. He scored two goals and added an assist in Finland's opening game victory on Thursday.
