On this day in 2009...

It was a Sunday during football season four years ago, but on this day in 2009, football was not the sports story of the day.

Down two games to none in their best-of-five series, the Minnesota Twins, clinging desperately to hope against a New York Yankee team that had beaten them seven of the previous eight times they met in the postseason, could once again not overcome Alex Rodriguez and Co., losing 4-1 and getting swept for the third time in their last three playoff appearances.

This wasn't just a series loss, it was their last game ever in the Metrodome.

The Twins moved into Target Field in 2010, making the playoffs in their inaugural year while ending their season in the same way, getting swept by the Yankees in the American League Division Series.

The Metrodome has been home to the Vikings, Twins, Gopher football and baseball among others, and will be torn down in 2014 after opening on April 20, 1982, to make way for the new Vikings stadium. It is the only stadium to host a MLB All-Star Game, Super Bowl, NCAA Final Four, and World Series.
