The biggest hockey game of the season didn't go as planned for the Minnesota Wild.

The Chicago Blackhawks, the current class of the Western Conference, blanked Minnnesota, 1-0, Tuesday night at Xcel Energy Center.

Here's a roundup of what sportswriters and bloggers are saying, the morning after:

Tom Powers, Pioneer Press: "(The Wild) are an improved model and getting better. But they still have a way to go.

Patrick Reusse, Star Tribune: "The most noticeable burst of noise in Xcel Energy Center on Tuesday night took place when the visitors scored a goal."

Chad Graff, Pioneer Press: "The scoreboard reflected how close the Wild came to beating the historically good Chicago Blackhawks, and how far they are from joining the NHL's elite."

Michael Russo: Star Tribune: "Offensively, the Wild didn’t win enough battles, weren’t opportunistic, especially on one second-period sequence when ice-cold Cal Clutterbuck couldn’t bury a loose puck he squeezed into the crease. He has one goal since Feb. 9."

Greg Boysen: Second City Hockey, SB Nation: "I see some pretty good potential in the Wild and Hawks becoming bitter rivals in the next few years. They have just the right amount of turds on their team, with guys like Zenon Konopka and Cal Clutterbuck, to get under your skin. And speaking of Clutterbuck, he is a pair of mirrored sun glasses away from becoming the cop from The Village People."
