Ortiz, Red Sox pound Twins in 12-5 slugfest

It was the longest-running nine-inning game ever at Target Field, and it couldn't end soon enough for the Twins fans that lingered as Boston bruised Minnesota 12-5 Saturday night.

Pitching was, well ... a nice idea, as rubber arms on both teams got roughed up. The difference, though, was the Twins leaving the bases loaded twice, in innings 2 and 3, and leaving two runners on in the 5th, according to the Sports Network.

Over four hours, the Twins stranded runners, gave up huge hits, and watched David Ortiz once again beat up on the team that let him go all those years ago. Big Papi smacked two homers and had six RBI. In fact, as Sports Network points out, he's is hitting .332 with 15 homers and 43 RBI in 53 games against his former club.

Twins' starter Scott Diamond could not replicate a gem he pitched against Boston earlier this month, giving up eight hits and six runs in 4 1/3 innings as the Sox went up in the series 2-0.

Ryan Dempster labored through 4 2/3 innings by throwing 127 pitches for the Sox, allowing eight hits, six walks and five runs, but Craig Breslow (1-0) threw 1 2/3 shutout innings for the win.

Pedro Florimon had a pair of RBI for the Twins, losers of four in a row, and has four so far in the three-game series, which will wrap Sunday afternoon at Target Field.
