Chris Parmelee is off to an outstanding start in his rookie season with the Twins. The September call-up has been so good that, as of now, he is first in line to become Minnesota's starting first-baseman in 2012 if Justin Morneau isn't healthy enough to play in the field.

The fact that Justin Morneau has started ten straight spring training games as the Twins' designated hitter could mean Chris Parmelee will be starting at first base when the regular season begins next Friday in Baltimore. Parmelee hit .355 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 21 games for the Twins last season.

Chris Parmelee hit his fifth home run of the spring on Sunday, tying Luke Hughes for the team lead. His power, along with improved defense at first base, made the Twins' decision to move Justin Morneau to designated hitter much easier. GM Terry Ryan says Parmelee has "done everything you could ask for and probably more."

Gophers complete first sweep of 2012

Minnesota (19-9-1, 13-5-0 WCHA) held onto a 3-2 victory over St. Cloud State University Saturday night at the National Hockey Center. The Huskies (10-14-4, 7-10-3 WCHA) netted the first lead, but the Gophers freshman forward Sam Warning went to score the game-winning goal with less than two minutes left in the third. Minnesota is off to Denver in two weeks. The Gophers now lead UMD by five points in the WCHA standings.

Twins release 2012 schedule

The Minnesota Twins have released their 2012 schedule. They'll open on the road in Baltimore on April 6, with the first homestand at Target Field starting on April 9 against the L.A. Angels. As for their interleague opponents coming to town: The Cubs, Phillies and Brewers will all be here in June.
