Pete Rose doesn't think David Ortiz belongs in the Hall of Fame

David Ortiz is probably going to be a cinch Hall of Fame inductee when he becomes eligible, but if Pete Rose had a qualifying vote he wouldn't give it to "Big Papi."

Rose is now working as an analyst for FOX, and during the All-Star Game earlier this week he was asked if Ortiz has a Hall of Fame resume.

"Borderline," Rose responded, according to NESN, "because of how many hits he has. But if he plays a couple more years, he’s a cinch."

Rose, baseball's all time hits leader apparently doesn't care that Ortiz has the following (incredible) numbers:

  • .286 career average
  • 2,400 hits
  • 618 doubles
  • 525 home runs
  • 1,713 RBIs
  • .931 career OPS
  • 3 World Series rings
  • 10 time All-Star
  • 7 Silver Slugger awards

However, Sporting News points out that a career designated hitter has never been enshrined in Cooperstown.

Ortiz plans on retiring after the season and he's going out in style, putting together one of the all-time great season for a 40-year-old player.
