Peter King: Peterson still wants out; Cowboys could play a role

Monday Morning Quarterback's Peter King has been told that Adrian Peterson doesn't want to play for the Minnesota Vikings.

King writes:

"Adrian Peterson hasn’t changed his mind about wanting out of Minnesota, I’m told. And if a certain domino falls—Jacksonville or Oakland overpaying DeMarco Murray and pulling him out of Dallas—then Jerry Jones might be willing to deal a good pick for Peterson ..."

Murray's chances of staying with the Cowboys seem to be diminishing. He removed all affiliation to the Cowboys from his Twitter profile and he's being pursued by multiple teams, including the Eagles, Jaguars and Raiders, NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reports.

But what can the Vikings get back in a trade involving Peterson? ESPN's John Clayton told 1500ESPN that the best-case scenario is a fourth-round pick.

Peterson had a meeting on Monday with Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf and General Manager Rick Spielman. Details about what was discussed are unclear, but Peterson did say he's "waiting to see what happens."

Those five words, as taken by Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio, could mean that Peterson attended the meeting to make a formal request to be traded.

"Those five words say a lot. It means the ball currently isn’t in Peterson’s court, that he’s anticipating an answer or an action by the Wilfs and/or the Vikings.

"Which strengthens the notion that Peterson told coach Mike Zimmer and G.M. Rick Spielman last week that Peterson wants out, and that he went to New York on Monday to make the request formally of the only men with the power to accommodate him."

Per usual with the Peterson situation... stay tuned.
