Peter King's predictions on landing spots for free agent quarterbacks

Who's going to be commanding the huddle for the Vikings?

Sports Illustrated's Peter King admits that it's still way too early to accurately predict where free agent quarterbacks and quarterbacks in the NFL Draft will go, but here are his best guesses (names in italics represents players in the draft).

  • Kirk Cousins – Denver
  • A.J. McCarron – Arizona
  • Sam Darnold – Browns (or Sam Bradford)
  • Baker Mayfield – Jets
  • Josh McCown – Jets
  • Drew Brees – Saints
  • Josh Allen – Giants
  • Case Keenum – Vikings
  • Teddy Bridgewater – Vikings
  • Josh Rosen – Buffalo
  • Mason Rudolph – Jacksonville
  • Lamar Jackson – Baltimore
  • Tyrod Taylor – Miami

Yes, King's current line of thinking has the Vikings bringing back Keenum and Bridgewater. His reasoning:

"This is too safe. I sort of hate it. Keenum will likely be more inclined to go somewhere with no summer competition for the starting job (Buffalo?), but he also knows his team intimately here, and he knows (or should know) how he’d flourish under new offensive coordinator John DeFilippo. Bridgewater … I have no idea. What do you make of a guy who hasn’t played for two years, and who was not a sure long-term thing the last time he played? Seems the comfort-level play for him would be to stay for an incentive-laden deal."

Tuesday is actually a big day for Keenum because it's the first day teams can place the franchise tag on players they hope to keep on a one-year deal rather than allowing them to test free agency.

Vikings radio guy Paul Allen recently suggested that if the Vikings don't place the tag on Keenum between Feb. 20-March 6, there's a good chance that means they might have bigger fish to fry, like Kirk Cousins.

Time will tell, but the QB carousel is about to get very interesting.
