Peterson tries for rushing record against Houston

Vikings' running back Adrian Peterson says he will try to break Eric Dickerson's single-season NFL rushing record this Sunday against the Texans.

Peterson is 294 yards short of breaking Dickerson's 1984 record of 2,105 yards.

"That's my mind-set," he said Thursday. "That's how I'm looking at it -- just get it done, get it out of the way. We'll see."

It's not like he hasn't done it before. In 2007, Peterson set the record for rushing in a single-game with 296 yards as a rookie.

AP says he understands why Dickerson doesn't want the record broken, afterall, Peterson doesn't want anyone breaking his single-game record.

Peterson, who lives in Houston during the off season, will have more than 100 friends and family members at Sunday's game.

Kicker Blair Walsh is also going for a record by the end of the season. After Sunday's victory over the Rams, Walsh tied the record for most field goals scored in a season from 50 plus yards.
