Peterson's job is to elevate players, Faulk says

Defining who the best all-around running back in the history of the NFL is is a difficult and debatable task. If the debate were held today, former Colts and Rams star Marshall Faulk would most likely come up in the conversation.

Faulk now works for NFL Network. On Friday he gave some advice to Adrian Peterson.

"It's not just what you do. The challenge is for Adrian Peterson to find a way to make the people around him believe every day they step on the field, they're going to run faster, play stronger and be better than they might actually be," said Faulk.

"It's in his best interest to have the ability to make people around him better, which is different than leadership. It's a difficult form of communication that you have with your teammates. That understanding has to be there when you're being critical of what they're doing, you're actually complimenting them because they should expect that from Adrian Peterson."

Meanwhile, Peterson was reminiscing his amazing 2012 season with the Pioneer Press on Friday. Altough he fell eight yards shy of Eric Dickerson's single season rushing record, Peterson isn't shy about saying his season was more impressive.

"To be able to come back and help my team the way I planned on, to go over 2,000 yards after a torn ACL, missing time the first couple games, it was pretty spectacular, man," Peterson said. "To me, I broke that record, just not publicly. But I'll get it."

His pursuit starts Sunday in Detroit.
