Vikings running back Adrian Peterson missed two of the final three games of the regular season and pulled out of the Pro Bowl last week after struggling late in the season with foot and groin injuries.

From the sound of multiple reports, the latter of the two may require surgery.

In a story first filed by USA Today, the reigning league MVP may need what is called an adductor release, which cuts an irritated tendon and would require an estimated two months of rehab.

AP will see Philadelphia specialist Dr. William Meyers this week to decide whether the groin issue will require the minimally invasive procedure.

Meyers also performed Peterson's hernia surgery last February, from which he returned to offseason practice May 29.
