Pitching, Perkins prevail in Chicago as Twins nip Sox 2-1 in 10 innings

The weather was clear enough for a ballgame, but the bats were cold in Chicago as the Twins out small-balled the White Sox 2-1.

Ryan Doumit scored in the 10th inning when Alexei Ramirez committed a throwing error, attempting to get Eduardo Escobar out at first on a grounder. Doumit headed home while the ball rolled up the right field line after hitting Escobar in the backside.

For all the little action at the plate, fans saw plenty of good stuff coming off the mound for 10 innings.

Twins starter Vance Worley was solid, allowing a run on five hits and two walks over seven innings in a no decision, according to Sports Network. Casey Fien (1-1) got the final out in the ninth to pick up the win. Glen Perkins allowed just a walk in the bottom of the 10th and picked up his fourth save of the season.

Chicago starter Jake Peavy was equally stingy, striking out nine and giving up a run on six hits and four walks over seven innings.

Josh Willingham drove in the other run for the Twins, who were playing for the first time since Wednesday's and Friday's games were rescheduled because of weather. Along with a game against the Mets that was supposed to be played on Sunday, the Twins have three games this season that were postponed for later in the season.

Alejandro De Aza had a leade-off home run, but it was the only score for the White Sox.

Aaron Hicks, despite the Twins' insistence that he is progressing, continued his woes at the plate by failing to advance a runner on a pop bunt in the top of the 10th.
