Trevor Plouffe took to his Twitter on Friday to address the Twins' decision on Friday to release him from the active roster.

Plouffe said he plans to write a huge thank you in the near future for all who supported him over the years. The 30-year-old Plouffe started the last four seasons as the Twins' Opening Day third baseman.

Injuries limited Plouffe to just 84 games this season. Despite slight improvements from 2012-2014, his rising salary due to his final year of arbitration deemed him expendable.

According to Mike Beradino of the Pioneer Press, Twins general manager, Thad Levine left Plouffe a voicemail on Friday, "explaining the situation."

“I don’t know Thad or (chief baseball officer Derek Falvey) at all,” Plouffe told Beradino. “My first-ever contact with them is getting fired, but I have no ill will toward them. Obviously it’s their call.

It appears for now that the Twins will bank on Miguel Sano to be the everyday third baseman in 2017.
