Minnesota Twins 7

Boston Red Sox 4

The Twins beat the Boston Red Sox in the opening exhibition game of spring training today, winning 7-4.

1. Slow Start for Park

Korean slugger Byung Ho Park took his first three MLB at-bats today – and went down swinging in each, eventually being pulled for AA prospect Adam B. Walker II in the seventh. Afterward, Park gave a short interview to the Pioneer Press through a translator, saying he's happy to have his first game out of the way.

2. Twins' bats come alive in the middle innings

After striking out in his first two plate appearances, leadoff man Byron Buxton hit a hard line drive into left field in the fourth to get John Ryan Murphy home, making it 1-0. In the next inning, Jorge Polanco homered to left field with Miguel Sano on base to make it 3-0. Sano had two walks and a hit-by-pitch on the day.

3. Kepler makes his grapefruit league debut

The Twins' German-born outfielder picked up a base hit in the seventh before grounding out in the eighth. He also had a chance to show off his glove in the bottom half of that frame, holding two straight batters to singles on hits to right field (though other runners did score on each one).
