Puckett, Killebrew leading vote for MLB's 'Franchise Four'

The four greatest players in Minnesota Twins history, as determined by a fan vote, are closer to be named in Major League Baseball's "Franchise Four."

Leading the vote is all-time Twins home run leader Harmon Killebrew. While vote totals aren't mentioned, Killebrew is followed by Kirby Puckett, Rod Carew and Tony Oliva, according to a release on the Twins' website.

The four others receiving votes but not in the top four are Bert Blyleven, Joe Mauer, Jim Kaat and Walter Johnson. Johnson never played for the Twins, but the vote respects all players in franchise history; Johnson played for the Washington Senators, who moved to Minnesota and became the Twins in 1961.

Killebrew died in 2011 but his legacy is still making waves today. Last week, his hometown of Payette, Idaho, raised more than $300,000 and opened a new baseball field designed to allow children with special needs a safe place to play. Read more about it right here.

About a year ago Twins Daily put together a Twins Mount Rushmore and all four leading vote-getters – Killebrew, Puckett, Carew and Oliva – were on it.

Voting ends May 8 and the "Franchise Four" for all 30 MLB teams will be unveiled at the All-Star Game in Cincinnati on July 14.
