Record-breaking crowd at Target Field for St. Thomas-St. John's showdown

The Tommies hang on to beat the Johnnies for the fourth straight time.

The sidewalks in North Loop, Minneapolis were crawling with a sea of football fanatics donning the red of St. John's and the purple of St. Thomas on Saturday.

Minnesota sports fans have come to recognize Target Field as the home of the Twins. However for Saturday's game, the ballpark was transformed into a football field for the special meeting between two Minnesota rivals.

A Division III record-breaking crowd of 37,355 saw the Tommies win for the fourth straight time in their series, 20-17 the final score.

The Tommies-Johnnies matchup was electric, and the game itself may have been even better than the atmosphere at the park.

A late fourth quarter defensive stop by St. Thomas left the fans in red hanging their heads, but allowed for the fans in purple to cheer as they earned bragging rights for yet another year following the tightly contested game.
