Jack Nelson, a record setting quarterback at Winona State has been invited to the Vikings rookie minicamp coming up this weekend. Nelson will be among the many players trying to earn a spot at training camp later this summer.

Nelson threw for 12,700 yards in his four years at Winona which is a school record and an NSIC Conference record.

According to Winona State's school newspaper, Nelson met with more than 20 NFL teams during his senior year.

He told the Winona Daily News that he accepted tryout offers from the Vikings and Indianapolis Colts whose minicamp he plans to attend the following weekend.

Another local product, Anthony Hill from Hamline University, will also be at the Vikings rookie minicamp on a tryout.

Hill is a defensive back who finished his career with 285 tackles and intercepted five passes in his four years with the Pipers.

Players like Nelson and Hill are not among the undrafted free agents (or UDFA's) that the Vikings signed shortly after the draft. Instead, they'll have to prove their worth if they want to stick around beyond this weekend.
