Report: A finalist has emerged in the Twins' GM search

With big names such as Alex Anthopoulos and Ben Cherrigton passing on the opportunity to be the Minnesota Twins next President of Baseball Operations/general manager, the position remains wide open.

According to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports, Cleveland Indians assistant GM Derek Falvey is a strong candidate and is even considered to be one of the finalists according to his sources.

Falvey has been with the Indians' organization for eight years and was named assistant GM in October of 2015.

Previously, he held a shared title of director of baseball operations before being promoted last year. In his role as director of operations, he focused on player personal and acquisitions.

Falvey was a part of the staff that helped bring eventual Cy Young winner Cory Kluber to the Cleveland. The organization has also done a great job at developing talent such as: Jason Kipnis, Francisco Lindor and Tyler Naquin.

The Indians were in the winner-take-all Wild Card game in 2013 but have yet to play in the divisional round since 2007 when the team made it as far as the ALCS.

Currently Cleveland is in first place in the American League Central and could lock up the division soon.

The Twins relieved Terry Ryan from his role as GM in mid-July. The Twins have said they are hoping to complete the search by the end of the season.
