Report: Aaron Rodgers very frustrated, future in Green Bay in question

The report says it'll affect contract talks with Green Bay.

Aaron Rodgers is growing increasingly frustrated with the Green Bay Packers, according to Yahoo! Sports NFL insider Charles Robinson

Robinson writes:

"While the relationship between Rodgers and the Packers isn’t in total disrepair, two league sources familiar with the quarterback’s mindset described him as both “frustrated” and “emotional” over a lack of communication from the front office prior to some significant decisions this offseason."

The decisions Robinson refers to are about Rodgers' quarterbacks coach Alex Van Pelt and wide receiver Jordy Nelson, both of whom were let go without first consulting Rodgers.

These decision will come into play in contract negotiations with Rodgers, says Robinson.

Rodgers is entering the sixth year of a seven-year contract, but he's the ninth highest-paid quarterback in the NFL despite arguably being the best.

According to Spotrac, these are the 10 highest-paid quarterbacks based on average annual salary.

  1. Kirk Cousins, Vikings, $28 million
  2. Jimmy Garoppolo, 49ers, $27.5 million
  3. Matthew Stafford, Lions, $27 million
  4. Drew Brees, Saints, $25 million
  5. Derek Carr, Raiders, $25 million
  6. Andrew Luck, Colts, $24.5 million
  7. Alex Smith, Redskins, $23.5 million
  8. Joe Flacco, Ravens, $22.1 million
  9. Aaron Rodgers, Packers, $22 million
  10. Russell Wilson, Seahawks, $21.9 million

In reality, the Packers can pay Rodgers what he's owed this season and next, and then they could franchise tag him two years in a row if they want.

In that scenario, Rodgers would be 38 years old when he's eligible for free agency.

The only way out of it, as Pro Football Talk says, would be to retire. And then...well, let's let PFT say it.

"And then maybe he can suddenly unretire after the team has a replacement ready to go, forcing a trade to the Jets before getting cut there after a season and signing with the Vikings. Hypothetically, of course."

You know, Cousins' deal with the Vikings is only for three years, so the timing could work out pretty well. Just saying!
