Report: Cubs sign Scott Baker to 1-year deal

The Scott Baker era is over in Minnesota. The ex-Twins righthander has reportedly signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Scott Baker, who has spent his entire major league career in Minnesota, is headed to the friendly confines of Wrigley Park.

Several sources are reporting today that Baker has signed a one-year deal with the Chicago Cubs.

Baker, 31, missed the 2012 season after undergoing elbow surgery.

In a surprise move, Scott Baker underwent Tommy John surgery on Tuesday. He was supposed to have a different operation to repair a tendon in his right arm, but Dr. David Altcheck saw that Baker needed the more serious operation. Tommy John surgery usually keeps pitchers out 12-18 months.
