Teddy Bridgewater is on his way out of New York, but not to a team where he'll be the immediate starter.
According to reports, the Jets are trading Bridgewater to the New Orleans Saints in exchange for draft picks, although the specific compensation the Jets will receive is unclear.
Drew Brees is the starter in New Orleans, so barring an injury to Brees, Bridgewater will play the role of a backup quarterback.
Longer term, Bridgewater is still just 25 years old while Brees will turn 40 in January. That said, Brees is signed with the Saints through 2019, so the earliest Bridgewater would be considered a favorite to take over would be in 2020.
The former Vikings QB has been sharp with the Jets this preseason, completing 28-of-38 passes (73.7 percent) for 316 yards and a 104.7 passer rating.
