Report: Kings interested in trading for Derrick Williams

ProBasketballTalk talk reports that a trade is unlikely to happen anytime before Christmas, but the Wolves trading forward Derrick Williams to the Sacramento Kings is a rumor to keep an eye on.

In a chat on, NBA insider Chad Ford said the Wolves are definitely open to the idea of trading Williams.

"From everything I can gather, he's available. It's just about finding the right deal," Ford writes. "Head coach Rick Adelman would prefer another veteran big to fill out the rotation. I think GM Flip Saunders wants a little more value. I know the Kings have a lot interest in Williams and might have the right combination of veterans to make a deal (Jason Williams? Chuck Hayes?)."

Tom Ziller of SB Nation in Sacramento adds that the Kings would likely be interested in Williams' physical size and natural athleticism. Wolves fans might disagree, but the Kings seem to be a team that believes Williams was simply drafted by the wrong team.

The report makes sense considering Yahoo! Sports reported last week that Minnesota is in a "win now" mode with hopes of going deep in the playoffs to help convince Kevin Love to stay in Minnesota when he has the chance to become a free agent in 2015.

Per the report, the Wolves would like to acquire veteran players that are ready to play now rather than wait for Williams to develop -- which may never happen in Minnesota.
