MSU-Mankato reassigns Hoffner to assistant athletic director position

Minnesota State University-Mankato announced in an e-mail Friday that head football coach Todd Hoffner has been reassigned to the position of assistant athletic director for facilities development at the university, the Mankato Free Press reports.

The news comes less than a day after Hoffner -- who was cleared of child pornography charges stemming from videos of his children on his school-issued cellphone -- filed a lawsuit to seal court records of the investigation.

Hoffner did not respond to a request for comment from the Star Tribune, but his civil attorney said his client will not abide by the MSU's directive and will continue to fight for restoration of Hoffner "as head coach of the successful football team he created."

The former football coach learned Dec. 19 that he would be reinstated at the university, but at the time was not notified of what position he would be reinstated to.

Hoffner was arrested in August and was later charged with child pornography. With the support of his wife, Hoffner successfully argued that the video was innocent footage of his children, and the charges were dropped Nov. 30.

In Hoffner's absence, assistant coach Aaron Keen led MSU-Mankato to a 11-0 record in regular season, and won two post-season games before a defeat in the NCAA Division II semi-finals earlier this month.
