Teddy Bridgewater's road back to football is going to be a long ride and it begins Thursday when he goes in for surgery to repair the severe injuries he sustained to his left knee.

According to ESPN's Ed Werder, Bridgewater will undergo surgery to fix his torn ACL and other structural damage on Thursday.

Bridgewater was injured last Tuesday during a non-contact play during practice. He suffered the ACL tear along with a dislocated knee. Vikings head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman said Bridgewater didn't have any nerve or arterial damage.

The Vikings have been open about Bridgewater's future, saying he's expected to make a full recovery but they're uncertain if he'll be recovered on time to play in 2017. That's why trading for quarterback Sam Bradford was a big deal. Bradford has two years remaining on his contract.

Head coach Mike Zimmer confirmed Monday that Bridgewater has been at the Vikings' practice facility every day and he's got the same big smile on his face that he always does.
