Report: Twins sign slugger Logan Morrison

Morrison showcased a ton of power with the Rays last season.

Multiple reports indicate the Twins have signed free agent first baseman Logan Morrison.

ESPN's Jerry Crasnick says the deal is done, and KSTP's Darren Wolfson has information on how much Morrison can make ($6.5 million guaranteed).

Morrison, 30, slugged 38 homers for the Tampa Bay Rays last season. It's the type of power that would make the middle of Minnesota's batting order even more intimidating to opposing pitchers.

Zone Coverage's Brandon Warne has a tremendous breakdown of why Morrison's long untapped power came to fruition last season. Simply put, "elevate and celebrate," Warne writes.

Morrison had never hit more than 23 homers in a season prior to 2017.

Where Morrison fits exactly is the big question. He can play first base or a corner outfield position, but those spots are currently locked down, so the natural fit is designated hitter, but only if Miguel Sano is healthy enough to play third base.

If Sano can't play third base because of the titanium rod inserted into his leg in November, or because of possible punishment from the MLB regarding an investigation into alleged sexual harassment, Morrison would be the easy DH choice.

Morrison's former teammate in Tampa Bay, starting pitcher Jake Odorizzi, now with the Twins, told Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press that he was encouraging Morrison to sign with the Twins.
