Twins: May will start home opener; Nolasco headed for DL

Trevor May will return to the Minnesota Twins to replace Ricky Nolasco in the starting rotation, the Pioneer Press first reported Friday.

Nolasco underwent an MRI on his right elbow Thursday, one day after surrendering six runs over three innings in his first start of the season against Detroit. Mike Berardino writes that Nolasco "appears headed for the disabled list."

The Star Tribune reports MRI results showed nothing more than inflammation and he'll go on 15-day disabled list Saturday.

May will skip his scheduled start Saturday at Triple-A Rochester and join the Twins where he'll be the starting pitcher for Monday's home opener against the Kansas City Royals, La Velle Neal III wrote.

May pitched 45 2/3 innings for the Twins last season, finishing with a 7.88 ERA. But he gave fans a glimpse of his potential last September when he cruised through the White Sox order in a six-inning start in which he struck out 10 and walked none.

Hardball Talk's Aaron Gleeman adds that May, after a rough start to his MLB career, had 41 strikeouts to only 9 walks over his final 37 innings last season.
