The fact that Justin Morneau has started ten straight spring training games as the Twins' designated hitter could mean Chris Parmelee will be starting at first base when the regular season begins next Friday in Baltimore. Parmelee hit .355 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 21 games for the Twins last season.
It's been over two weeks since the Twins optioned Chris Parmelee back to Triple-A Rochester, and it might not be long before he gets called back up. Parmelee is hitting .452 with 3 homers and 9 RBI in nine games. Assistant GM Rob Antony says it might be good for Parmelee to go on a bit of a run at Triple-A.
For the fourth time this season, the Twins have called up first basement Chris Parmelee from Triple-A Rochester. He'll be in uniform tonight as Minnesota faces Seattle in game three of their four-game set.
Joe Mauer is out of the lineup for a fourth straight game because of a sore thumb. Meanwhile, Chris Parmelee is starting at first base as he rejoins the Twins from AAA Rochester. Parmelee credits ex-Twin Tom Brunansky for helping him "clear" his head in during his short stint in the minors.
It has taken nearly all season, but Chris Parmelee finally looks like the player who turned heads in his first major league call-up last September. Sent back to Class AAA Rochester after a lackluster start with the big-league club, he has returned and is hitting .500 (9 for 18) with two homers and four RBIs in five games since being recalled Aug. 29.
With three days off in the next few weeks, the Twins don't need a fifth starter, so they sent Cole De Vries back to Rochester today. Hot-hitting Chris Parmelee will be called up to take his spot on the roster.
Finally some good news that has something to do with the Twins. Kyle Gibson, the top pitching prospect in the minors, will pitch for Triple-A Rochester on Saturday. Gibson, who compiled a 2.49 ERA at the Twins' rookie league and Class A affiliate, is working his way back from Tommy John surgery.
With Matt Capps headed to the disabled list with shoulder soreness, the Twins plan to promote left-hander Tyler Robertson from AAA Rochester. Robertson, who posted a 3.77 ERA in 33 appearances with the Red Wings, is expected to be with the team Monday.
