Vikings tight end Kyle Rudolph will have surgery Tuesday on a sports hernia that is expected to keep him out of action for about six weeks, the Associated Press reports.

Rudolph apparently suffered the injury in Sunday's game; he left in the fourth quarter.

Rudolph is flying to Philadelphia on Tuesday morning to have Dr. William Meyers perform the surgery, according to the AP.

Minnesota's backup tight ends are Rhett Ellison and former Golden Gopher quarterback Marqueis Gray.

Pro Football Talk notes that Rudolph has been targeted 17 times by Vikings quarterbacks Matt Cassel and Teddy Bridgewater this year, good for second most on the team behind wide receiver Greg Jennings.

Minnesota could choose to place Rudolph on injured reserve with a designation that he could return yet this season.

Greenway has broken rib

Coach Zimmer announced in his press conference that linebacker Chad Greenway suffered a broken rib in the game. Greenway was already playing with a broken hand.
