Reports: Former Vikings RB Toby Gerhart signs with Jaguars

Former Viking Toby Gerhart has found a new home.

ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted Tuesday night that the Jacksonville Jaguars signed the free agent running back.

Like Schefter, a source confirmed the signing for NBC Sports, which says Gerhart landed a three-year deal worth $10.5 million. The source says $4.5 million in the contract is guaranteed.

The blog Niners Nation said the 49ers were interested in Gerhart because he previously played for head coach Jim Harbaugh while a running back at Stanford.

Gerhart was a second-round draft choice by the Vikings in 2010. He played in 61 games in his four-year stint with the Vikings, mostly as a back-up to star running back Adrian Peterson, running for 1,305 yards on 276 carries. Gerhart also caught 77 passes for 600 yards.

He scored eight touchdowns – five rushing, three receiving – in his four years as a Viking.

FOX Sports 1's NFL Insider Mike Garafolo tweeted Tuesday that the Browns were interested in Gerhart in addition to the 49ers and the Jaguars.
