Reports: Kubel likely not interested in minor league stint

Jason Kubel has been in a long drought and Saturday that drought may have been made permanent by the Twins.

The Twins designated Kubel for assignment after signing free agent power hitter Kendrys Morales.

According to a couple of reports Monday, it looks like Kubel is not interested in accepting a trip to the minors to try and figure out his swing, should he clear waivers.

According to the Pioneer Press, Kubel is still due $1.26 million of his $2 million guaranteed base salary. He already has collected about $300,000 in roster bonuses, so the Twins will be on the hook for $2.3 million in total if they are not able to find someone to take him during the 10-day window.

The Twins had signed Kubel in the offseason, hoping the outfielder would be able to regain his form. But he had been in a terrible slump recently.

Kubel hit .224 with one home run and 13 RBIs so far one the season, but his struggles go back further.

Kubel hit 30 home runs as recently as 2012, when he played for Arizona. Since then, he has hit a total of 11 home runs, while playing for Arizona, Cleveland and the Twins.
