Reports: Vikings RB coach Kirby Wilson to interview with Jags

Multiple media reports indicate Minnesota Vikings running backs coach Kirby Wilson will interview for the vacant Jacksonville Jaguars' offensive coordinator position.

According to ESPN's Ben Goessling, Wilson will interview for the job on Thursday. He will be competing for the position with former Chicago Bears head coach Marc Trestman and San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Greg Roman.

Goessling thinks the job that Wilson did leading a running back corps that was missing Adrian Peterson could improve his chances of landing an offensive coordinator position.

"Matt Asiata and Jerick McKinnon, who had 47 NFL carries between them before 2014, ran for a combined 1,108 yards on 279 carries this season despite injuries that took two of the Vikings' best run blockers – Brandon Fusco and Phil Loadholt – off the field for combined 18 games."

Wilson has spent just one season on the Vikings' coaching staff, but Pro Football Talk notes he has extensive NFL experience coaching running backs. Before coming to Minnesota, Wilson spent seven years with Pittsburgh and has also worked for the Cardinals, Patriots, Redskins and Buccaneers.

Goessling notes the call to interview in Jacksonville came three years to the day after Wilson nearly died in a house fire in Pittsburgh.
