Former Twins skipper Ron Gardenhire might be leading a team again.

The Boston Red Sox fired manager John Farrell on Wednesday and a few MLB insiders are speculating that Gardenhire could be a candidate to lead Boston.

Jon Morsi of MLB Network reported that Dave Dombrowski, President of Baseball Operations for the Red Sox, has "great respect" for Gardenhire.

Dombrowski used to be the Detroit Tigers general manager and he watched from afar as the Twins won six division titles from 2002-10.

Bob Nigthendale of USA TODAY also believes Gardenhire is a perfect fit for the Red Sox.

The Twins fired Gardenhire after the 2014 season. After being away from baseball for a few years, he landed the role of bench coach with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Earlier this year, he announced he had prostate cancer and ended up missing 30 games early in the season because of surgery to treat the cancer.

Over the course of his career, Gardenhire has posted a managerial record of 1,068-1039.

The only black eye on the 59-year-old is his lack of postseason success, as he's won just six out of 27 games in the playoffs.
